Legendary startup incubator and investor, Y Combinator, has accepted four legal tech companies into its summer 2026 cohort. Artificial Lawyer takes a look:
Perceptron ML
They build AI systems for law firms, trained on each firm’s own matters and deployed privately in their environment: timekeeping, intake and matter monitoring, research, discovery, and drafting.
The ‘grounding engine verifies every fact against a primary source before a model can cite it, which is why firms trust us with work that off-the-shelf legal AI keeps getting wrong’, they said.
AL comment: this is a smart move, and is tapping the current zeitgeist for law firms to try and crystallise their own knowledge with AI systems that they can control.
Erinys
‘Erinys is building the first AI-native plaintiff-side litigation law firm network. We use sophisticated technology to deliver high-quality legal representation faster, more affordably, and to more people.’
Erinys video, 2026
AL comment: they’re tapping several themes at once here – the surge in interest on the plaintiff side of the market to use AI tools (because in no win-no fee cases, any cost reduction on the work done is an important business gain); the rise and rise of NewMod / AI-native law firms; and the fact that many smaller firms, or solo lawyers want to use AI, but don’t have the time to build out their own personalised AI-based platforms. AL would add: why stop at just plaintiff firms?
P.S. the mention of a network is not really developed by the founders. AL really likes the idea of a real network of NewMods, but it doesn’t seem as if this is what they’re doing here, at least not yet. As noted, it’s more about offering lawyers the AI platform to operate more effectively.
Osmaura
‘Our agents scan the web to deliver new client & cross-selling opportunities for law firm partners.
Every day, our customers log onto our platform to see who to contact, why now, and what to say.
Partners are trained to practice law – not to prospect, sell, and manage pipelines. We’re here to help them grow while they focus on what they do best.’
AL Comment: this a new take on a well-developed area, namely helping with law firm CRM and BD via automation. In this case, they’re using an agentic approach to improve results and dig deeper into a law firm’s data. Of course, the main challenge all CRM systems have is whether the lawyers are actually logging key data, and then where that data ends up, and if it is accessible. But, the agentic dimension makes a lot of sense.
Aysnc
‘Async builds agents that change how businesses can run. Law firms, healthcare clinics and real estate companies hire our AI agents to automate complex work that’s never been economical to staff with humans, letting us capture labour spend that didn’t previously exist.’
AL Comment: this covers multiple verticals, but includes law firms. It’s interesting that they see a commonality between law, real estate and healthcare, presumably because all three areas are regulated (at least in the US), all handle high risk needs, confidential information, and complex documentation.

Overall, good to see Y Combinator continuing its support for and interest in the legal tech world. Each of the four have their merits, but if AL had to guess, it’s probably Perceptron that will garner the most immediate interest among the larger law firms, given the growing interest in ‘AI sovereignty’.
More about the cohort here and good luck to all the startups!
